The Silicon Valley Leadership Group is organizing a one-day conference on using public-private partnerships to address some of California’s infrastructure challenges.

Public-Private Partnerships or P3s are contractual, risk-sharing agreements between the public sector and the private sector for the purposes of designing, planning, financing, constructing and/or operating infrastructure or development projects which would traditionally be undertaken entirely by the public sector. P3s have been used extensively in Australia, Europe and Canada to help those countries build roads, rail lines, schools and water systems, while reducing cost to taxpayers, speeding delivery, and adding value through design innovations.

P3s can be an effective tool to rebuild California from the local level on up. But they aren’t the silver bullet. Come hear experts from around the globe who have used public-private partnerships talk about why and where they used this technique, what worked and didn’t, and how to structure P3s and utilize innovative financing tools to maximize their benefit.

Speakers:

  • Tyler Duvall
Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy, U.S. Department of Transportation

  • Larry Blain
CEO of Partnerships British Columbia company owned by the Canadian Province of British Columbia that is responsible for bringing together ministries, agencies and the private sector to facilitate development and infrastructure projects through public-private partnerships. The award-winning company has become a locus for P3 expertise in Canada.
